Grand Bend Dragstrip 1965
Many many thanks to Peter Wouters from Williams, AZ who contributed these pictures and articles. Peter was one of he first to race at Grand Bend Dragway back in 1965 with George Gray from London in a A/G Supercharged 1940 Willys Coupe named "Ramblin Woes."
Peter and George set a new Canadian record in '65 when they took the street eliminator class with a 10.46 ET at 135.12 MPH

Just back from the drags - Waaay back!

A really old B&W picture of the Bad Hombre coming home from a day of racing . too bad the picture wasn't in colour and showed the '66 Ford wagon that was towing it. - 40 years later it's sitting in the garage collecting dust.

Steve Evans' 1957 Ford Custom 300 Gasser

Some stats: 292 Y-block with 312 heads built, Isky cam (lopey), Fordomatic tranny, 4 core rad with 6 blade cooling fan. Demon carb, MSD ignition with hidden kill switch. 4 point roll cage, straight axle (with GM bits incl. disc brakes), stock front suspension mounts shaved, frame boxed, fabbed headers with caps into 3" Flowmasters out the rear, all done by a old Sacramento drag racer. Custom rear shock mounts with off-road shocks. 7X15 rears, 4X15 front Cragar SS's. Old school racing seat belts. Battery in trunk, electric fuel pump under driver side rear fender. Ford 9" out back with 3.92 (that'll change) and a bumper sticker that reads "One Less Bicycle".
In the works is the '63 big block Ford 406 motor (Ford in a Ford is the only way) in my basement with a B&M C6, fiberglass tilt hood, paint and minor bodywork and I go back and forth on radiusing the rear fenders.
Recently christened her the "Wreckin' Ball".

Had a great time
Well I had a great time at the drag races yesterday. The heat was unbearable and it didn't take long to go through a 12 pack of bottled water so next year I think I'll do the whole weekend and bring a trailer, that way I can have a fridge full of ice cold water and a shower to cool off with. Unfortunately I didn't get any pictures because instead of carrying a bag full of camera lenses around I decided to bring just one lens, a 28-210mm macro zoom that pretty much gave me a full range from wide angle to telescope. The unfortunate part is that the focus ring on this lens stuck and wouldn't allow me to focus in on my shots, oh well I still have the memories.
FYI - Clay Millican won his fourth consecutive Hooters IHRA national event and 41st career Ironman when he overpowered Paton in the Top Fuel final. “I have a Canadian flag proudly hanging in the shop and that’s no joke,” Millican said. “There are a lot of memories at this place. Me and Mike (Kloeber) took a walk down the racetrack the other day and talked about different runs we’ve made here. I love racing here.”

Well I'm Outta Here

Well on my way out the door to see the races, it's a gonna be a real hot one out there with the temperature (with humidex) at 07:00 already at 31*C / 94*F. Will be bringing lots and lots of water. This picture I took of Clay Millican at the 2003 Mopar Canadian Nationals doing his burnout to heat up the tires for traction, I believe this run was a 310+ mph pass and Clay went on to win that year. Clay is my pick to win again this year but I would love to see Canadian top fuel pilot Todd Paton win it for the home track, but Clay is a super classy guy so I guess we can make him a honorary Canadian for the weekend. Well I'm outta here, a slight possibility of a T-storm this afternoon, I blame that on Heather and her "burn, baby, burn" post .

Josh Collins

Here's my little brother Josh ad niece Jessica in there '35 Ford junior roadster, We also make a '32 Ford - standard - stretched - high boy - low boy - and with a blown hemi, a VW Beatle, '53 Ford pickup, Mustang and a '40 Merc. plus hood scoops groung effects, hell anything fiberglass including humungus valve covers for the ships that travel the great lakes.

My little Brother Josh's first race car. It's a half scale 23 model T. After building this car my dad wrote up a class for Junior Roadsters and sent it into IHRA and it was accepted so now you can race the 1/2 scale roadsters in IHRA pretty much the same rules as the Junior Dragsters but with diferent wheel base and body dimensions.

This is a picture of me and my Uncle John's 1957 Ford, he occasionally hands the car over to me to drive around and take care of it. Do I have the greatest Uncle in the world or what! It was built by my Dad and has a 428 Cobra Jet engine with a real mild cam that gets 28 MPG. No balls but amazing gas mileage.

1979 7.5 litre Mustang GT Special Edition

This is my 1979 7.5 litre (460 cid) Mustang GT Special Edition. It is pushes out around 400 HP and approx. 10-12 MPG. It's currently under reconstruction and may - still in debate - come back out with a 8.4 litre (514 cid) engine. Time and funds will determine if that happens.

"Money Honey"

This is my first born, a 1973 Comet GT / 302 tunnel ram pushing out about 500 hp with an ET of 11.0's. It was an every day street rod that got about 3-5 MPG. Had alot of fun with that one.

BAD HOMBRE just you wait....

This is my 1957 Ford the "BAD HOMBRE" My Dad raced it from 1967 - 1978 before it was retired to the garage to collect dust. It was one hairy scary ride pushing out about 880 hp. It's now mine minus the 427, it is now sporting a 428 Super Cobra Jet for the street and will hopefully be on the road within the next couple of years as I have many other projects in front of it.

I Want Your Opinion

I've redesigned the emblems on my 1979 7.5 litre Mustang GT and would love to get everyone's opinion on which one to use. Presently I am leaning towards the bottom one for the fender and the top one for the hub caps. The original fender emblem was a chrome 7.5 with a black trim and Special Edition underneath in black, similar to the 5.0 litre Mustangs. The original rims just had a 7.5 SE in silver on a black back ground but two of the rims exploded in an accident and try as I may I can't find replacements for them anywhere, so I figured since I can't replace them I might as well design my own. So please leave any constructive ideas and thoughts. Thanks in advance - Freddie jr.

1985 T-Bird 30th Anniversary fender emblem

My latest project is a 1985 T-bird inspired by my Stang and should be ready for the road this spring. Since they are both Fox Bodies and are esentially the same car I have droped a 460 in it and plan on adding Twin Turbo Chargers to it. I have designed fender and trunk decals for it and would love averyones opinion on my design. I wanted to incorporate the classic bird into the design to celebrate the T-birds history. The brand new (1985) emblems will remain on the front grill and rear quarters. I would appreciate any constructive feedback and opinions.

1985 T-Bird 30th Anniversary trunk emblem

The trunk emblem. Turbo X 2. My Dad sugest that I just put the TX2 emblem on the trunk. What do you think. The only other modifications to the car will be the Boss 302 / Cobra Jet hood scoop and the factory wing on the back, and embrodered emblems in the seats and floor mats.

Here are some vintage drag cars I scanned from some old negatives taken in 1965-7. The original pictures were destroyed in a fire and the negatives have degraded in quality allot but still hold a wee bit of history. If you have any knowledge of the cars in the pictures please feel free to leave a comment.

Veney's Vega

One of the most famous cars in the Pro Comp "BB/FC" days in "Veney's Vega". This car was flat out bad! He routinely beat up on the supposed quicker dragsters and won the world title in 1980 the last year both dragsters and funny cars raced side by side throughout eliminations. He set or broke 11 national and track record in a five years span from 1974 - 1979 and won 13 National events.
